Learn by doing, build confidence, and take ideas straight back to the classroom. I work closely with educators to understand their needs, shape each session around their setting, and co-design practical approaches that feel relevant and achievable. Resources and materials lists are included.
Micro:bit Training 1: Introduction Micro:bit CPD
An accessible introduction to the micro:bit designed to give teachers confidence using the device and MakeCode for the first time.
Teachers explore the micro:bits through playful coding activities using the LED display, buttons, movement, temperature and other simple inputs. The session introduces key computing concepts including sequencing, events, repetition and simple algorithms, before bringing these skills together in a creative classroom project.
Micro:bit Training 2: Conductivity, Electronics & Interactive Projects
This session introduces teachers and educators to physical computing, conductivity and simple electronic circuits.
Teachers learn how to use the micro:bit pins with crocodile clips, conductive materials, LEDs and other components to create interactive projects. Coding progresses to include selection, variables and more complex inputs and outputs, providing the foundations for projects such as conductive musical instruments, light boxes, buzz-wire games and reaction games.
Micro:bit Training 3: Physical Computing, Motors & Creative Engineering
The final training develops educators’ confidence with more advanced physical computing, engineering and design projects.
Teachers explore micro:bits, servos, motors, wheels, radio communication and a range of inputs and outputs, learning how coding can control movement and interaction. These skills are applied through creative projects such as kinetic artwork, robots, remote-controlled vehicles and fairground rides.
The session brings together coding, design, engineering and problem-solving through practical, pupil-led projects.
Early Years: Tinkering with Technology CPD
Tinkering with Technology helps Early Years teams build confidence using technology in a creative, playful and practical way, grounded in a tinkering pedagogy of exploring, experimenting, making and learning through trial and error.
Practitioners explore movement, light, simple circuits, digital microscopes, recording tools and creative making, discovering how these can support curiosity, problem-solving, storytelling and child-led learning.
The session is hands-on, accessible and designed to leave staff with practical ideas they can adapt and use straight away in their own setting.
Creative Mechanisms CPD Workshop
Creative Mechanisms is a hands-on CPD designed to help primary teachers build confidence exploring movement, mechanisms and making through creative classroom projects.
Practitioners experiment with motors, automata, levers, linkages, cams and cranks, developing ideas through designing, making, testing and improving.
Projects can include robotic arms, crank-driven characters, Drawing Artbots and moving sculptures, giving teachers creative approaches that naturally support progression in primary Design & Technology.
